Description
A small , three star owner run lodge, nestled under the majestic Drakensburg Mountains, in an elegant and relaxed setting. With two accommodation options of catered at our main lodge and selfcatering at our Pangolin Bush camp. We can accommodate eight guests in four suites at our main Shikwari Bush Lodge and eight in four rondavels at our Pangolin Bush Camp
Explore the Northern Limpopo Province with its many attractions. We are under an hour to the Kruger National Park and 15 minutes to Blyde River Canyon, the third largest canyon in the world, this is the ideal accommodation to spend a few days. We are the first lodge after coming through the J G Strydom tunnel and approximately 20-30 minutes from Hoedspruit. We are also only an hour away from Magoebaskloof and the Canopy Tour over the Letaba River.
Shikwari is home to a variety of non-dangerous game such as Giraffe, Wildebeest, Impala, Kudu, Zebra and Bushbuck. Less seen are Leopard, Porcupine, Pangolin, & Warthog. Explore the bush on foot or in our safari vehicle,with our experienced FGASA Guide,do some birding and learn about lesser known interesting facts of the bush. Remember to take your binoculars and camera. You might just get a winning shot of our wildlife! The Drakensburg Mountains above the lodge are home to the Manoutsa Vulture Colony with up to 660 pairs of Cape Vulture. This is the fourth largest colony in the world. Many other raptures may be seen. We are recognise by Birdlife SA as a birding spot and are on the Kruger to Canyon Birding route.
The Main lodge area has a tranquil plunge pool and shady veranda. Our knowledgable staff will attend to all you requests and offer information about the area. After a wonderful days sightseeing, watch the sunset turn the Skilderkraans Mountain into a rainbow of colour whilst enjoying sundowners. Later our friendly staff will serve delicious dinners under a dark velvet, star-filled sky or in our well appointed candlelit dining room when the days become cooler.
Retire when the day is done to one of our four luxurious suites, secluded amongst the bush. Each suite is beautifully decorated and well appointed, with a hospitality tray and mini bar, stocked to your needs. The en-suite bathrooms have large oval baths and outdoor showers. There is a choice of Twin, Queen or King beds all with fine percale linen . There is a turndown service in the evening. All rooms are supplied with wonderful pampering toiletries, bathrobes, airconditioners and fans .
Pangolin Bush Camp-self catering.
For those that prefer self catering and want the feel of a rustic style camp this is a great option. Three rondavels are queens and one is a twin. There is a fully equipped kitchen, on an open patio (fridge, freezer, microwave, hob and oven). Lounge, Boma for braais (barbacues), your wood is supplied and fire lit for you. There is also a plunge pool set in a garden around which the rondavels (round room) are placed.
There is a large bathroom with bath and basin, separate toilet and an outdoor shower. They have fans but are not air conditioned. The rooms are not en-suite & all amenities are shared between the four rondavels. All rooms are separate & private. Book the whole camp for a family gathering or a re-union with friends. Children up to 15yrs stay free and fold out beds are supplied.

From Johannesburg Traveling by car from Johannesburg is 4 1/2 hours at legal driving speeds. This is 120kms unless otherwise stated. Best done during the daytime. Take the N1 to Centurion and Pretoria then the N4 to Witbank.... See further directions from Pretoria.
From Pretoria Take the N4 to Witbank continue on the highway 90kms and get off at the Belfast offramp turn left and go through Belfast. At the second 4 way stop you will turn to the right passing the Belfast Royal Hotel. at the next corner turn left and continue until you pass the pancake bar at the next road turn right and continue through to Dullstroom (great for lunch) taking the R36 go straight through this town and head for Lydenburg 112kms (watch out for the potholes in the road from here to next village). YOu will come to a T-junction take the left turning into Lydenburg turn left at the second traffic light this road takes a bend to the right continue on this road to Orighstad. After Orighstad you will pass the turning to Graskop and go over the Abel Erasmus Pass and through the J G Styrdom Tunnel, we are 8kms after the tunnel on the right hand side opposite a fruit stall. Our gate guard will sign you in and direct you to your respective accommodation.
From Eastgate Airport, Hoedspruit. From the airport gate turn right and continue to the T-junction. At this junction turn right continue for approx 7kms you will come to a 4-way stop in Hoedspruit, at this stop turn left, continue through Hoedspruit and keep on this road for approx 36kms you will then pass a road on your right with a service station on the corner, to Tzaneen, go past this and continue for 3kms. The lodge gates are on your right opposite fruit stall.
Directions from the R40 and Timbavati, Thornybush and Southern Reserves Head straight on the Argyle road on the way out of the Timbavati until you get to a T-juncion turn right onto R40. Turn left in to Hoedspruit (R527) towards the beautiful escarpment and mountains in front of you. Carry on this road for approx 38kms and we are on the right, black entrance wall and large tree. John our gate guard will sign you in and direct you to your respective accommodation.
