Oaklands Country Manor is an award winning Guest Lodge situated at a height of almost 2000 metres / 6000 feet on the Drakensberg Escarpment, midway between Johannesburg (3 hours) and Durban (2 1/2 hours) and only 7 kms from the highway at the top of Van Reenen's Pass.
It is the ideal place to start or end your holiday, being so close to Johannesburg International Airport. It also serves as a gateway to Natal, which is proving such a popular holiday destination for the independant traveller with its wide variety of fascinating attractions and superb holiday experiences. These vary from the history and culture of the Zulu people to the full game watching experience and breathtaking mountain scenery to unspoilt coastline. You can enjoy almost everything that South Africa has to offer without spending your whole holiday in a car or plane.
Oaklands Country Manor offers luxury suites - extremely spacious with en suite bathrooms, heated towel rails, own patio with beautiful views of our valley. Each suite is equipped with a Jetmaster fireplace, electric blankets and asbestos heaters for extreme comfort even in mid-winter. Easily accessable by wheelchairs and elderly people. Our suites can also be used as Family units, as each unit comprises a Double room back-to-back with a Twin room, with inter and outer leading doors.

Oaklands is situated in stunning mountain scenery on the Drakensberg Escarpment midway between Johannesburg (3 hrs) and Durban (2 1/2 hrs) and 7 kms from the N3 at Van Reenen. We offer peace and quiet but there is plenty to do for the more energetic. Boer War battlefield tours and polo are our specialties.

Attractions
Oaklands serves as an ideal base from which to explore the regions of northern Natal and the eastern Free State. Both areas are renowned for their outstanding natural beauty set in breathtaking mountain (Berg) scenery. Within easy driving distance, two of South Africa's national parks are to be found. The Royal Natal lies at the northern end of the Drakensberg Mountain range and is world famous, not least because it was the location for the filming of 'Zulu'. The majestic Amphitheatre colossus towers above you as you enjoy beautiful hiking trails. The Golden Gate National Park nestles in the foothills of the Maluti Mountains on the norther border of Lesotho and is equally stunning. The area is also rich in history and culture, not to mention exquisite flora and fauna. Above all, within 2 hours driving range can be found 12 battlefields and historic sites of the 2nd Anglo-Boer War, tours of which are a speciality of the lodge. For those who do not have an interest in history, there are numerous other pursuits and activities to satisfy you, such as hot air ballooning, fishing and 4x4 trails.

Directions
Approximately 30 kms from Harrismith and about 25 kms from the Tugela Toll Plaza on the N3 you will find Van Reenen's Pass. Take the Turn-off at the CALTEX garage in Van Reenen, signpost to Oaklands Country Manor. Travel for exactly 7 kms and we are on the right hand side.
